1974 Scampi Mark IV Boat Owners Notes: Please Feel Free to  Call Edward @ [removed phone].  I was tired of chartering and wanted to own a boat that I could thoroughly understand its behavior. I found the Scampi in a Maine boatyard where the previous owner lived a board but had relocated to California. It was in very good condition and reasonably priced.  The Scampi is a IOR rated 1/2 tonner and was purchased by the original owner for racing. It has a fin keel drawing 5' 2" and a skeg hung ruddder. The hull has chined sides which make for stable handling in heavy winds. She is easily balanced with a neutral feel to the tiller. The boat is equipped with a whisker pole and spinnaker pole and 5 headsails, 2 main sails with one fully battened but no spinnaker. It is equipped with a 12hp Farymann diesel engine which can be cranked by hand should the battery fail. The engine drives a hydraulic pump which powers a hydraulic motor(2years old). The Scampi is a IOR rated 1/2 tonner and was purchased by the original owner for racing. The engine is mounted under the Vee berth. I was concerned about so much weight .forward but with the crew in the cockpit it is beautifully balanced.

The cockpit easily handles 4 adults. The companion way is raised so no water can enter the cabin if the cockpit is swamped. The traveler for the boom is mounted here. Underneath is the wet locker. Entering the saloon via 2 steps sideways such that it takes negligible room in the cabin. On the left is the navigation and electric panel the seat being the quarter berth  under the cockpit bench. On the right is the fully equipped galley with a CNG stove, sink(flexible water tank under steps) and Ice chest, which is accessible both in the cabin and in the lazarette.
Forward are settees on both sides with one that can be expanded to a double beth. A folding table is parallel to the settees. Open and closed storage is located above and storage under the settees. The mast is stepped on the cabin roof above a pole at the end of the table stepped to the keel. The cabin is equipped with a diesel fuel heater and a gimbeled oil lamp. Between the bulkhead and Vee berth are the head with a sliding sink on the port side and a hanging locker on starboard. In the back is a stainless fuel tank (approx 10 gallons with only 1 fillup a year) A door serves to close the locker and also to close the forward cabin from the main saloon. Sliding panels isolate the Vee berth from the head. The head has been approved for use in RI which has very strict dumping laws. There is NO odor from the head.
There are 3 anchors, a danforth mounted on the stern handrail for emergency use, a delta on a roller sprit with 15ft of chain and 100ft nylon rode and a SQR in the lazarette equipped with a rode so that 2 anchors can be deployed in tight quarters.
