1926 40' Alden R- Boat

"Vitesse" was designed by John R. Alden and built to the highest standards by Lawley in 1926.  She had a successful racing career in the great lakes and later on Long Island Sound. The R boat class was concieved by National Herreshoff for level rating racing .Other class designations included the S.P.Q. and the mighty J boats. The R class boats are a manageable size "Vitesse" is just under 40, have self bailing cockpits and simole overnight accomodations. A complete rebuilding project was begun by her current owner's in the late 1990's: she has been almost completely replanked (double planked), reframed, new deck and deck beams have been installed, tapered aluminum mast was also added.  The owner's serious illness now forces a sale of  "Vitesse" before the rebuild/restoration is complete; the heavy work has been done but the interior, rigging, refinishing remain to be completed
A new owner could pick up the ball from here and finish this elegant classic to his specifications, all at a reasonable cost.  "Vitesse" would make an elegant daysailor while offering basic cruising amenities.She would also be an ideal candidate to compete in the popular Classic racing series.
